One Bird, Chagcharan, Afghanistan

One Bird, Chagcharan, Afghanistan

Continuing this week’s preview of Afghanistan: Mountains, Streets & Two Birds, available at http://www.blurb.com/my/book/detail/2343383, is one of the two birds. I won’t show the other bird photo, as it’s sort of an Easter egg thing. This was in Chagcharan, Ghor Province, a dusty, desperately poor place. It’s reputed to be the poorest province in the third poorest country in the world; the average salary is less than $60 per year. Yeah, what I spent on groceries for one party (a lamb roast) last week is what the average person earns in a YEAR. The hills are dry, the land is dry, and the river doesn’t seem to be terribly useful as an irrigation tool.
As I lounged around the PRT base, waiting while my cohorts were meeting the governor and making connections and such, I took my camera for a walk, and fortuitously came across this bird, just relaxing for a moment on a convenient roost.
