During a jeepin’ trip, parts sometimes break. This particular ride, getting over a slightly-higher-than-usual root revealed a manufacturing defect in the spline on the axle. The two mechanics on the trip jacked up the front end and replaced the broken part in about two and a half hours…while parked on the side of the trail.
While they were working on that, the photographer on the trip shot some photos, including this one of the broken spline (the photographer learned the word “spline” and can’t help but use it several times). The straight shot is pretty good, but as I’ve been experimenting with texture layers, I thought I’d see if I couldn’t rough it up a bit. The texture comes from a photo of chipped paint on the hood of another Jeep.
